CBG: The lesser-known but promising cannabinoid

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, and while it's not as well-known as CBD or THC, it's gaining attention for its potential medicinal properties.

CBG is present in small amounts in most cannabis strains, typically less than 1%. However, there are now specific strains being developed to have higher levels of CBG. This cannabinoid is non-psychoactive, meaning it won't get you "high."

CBG has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and anti-anxiety properties in preclinical studies. It also has potential as an antimicrobial and in treating glaucoma.

CBG may also be effective in treating Huntington's disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. A study conducted on mice with a model of the disease found that CBG was able to slow down the progression of Huntington's symptoms.

Another study found that CBG may be able to slow the growth of certain types of cancer cells, including colon, breast, and prostate cancer cells. However, it's important to note that these findings are still in the preclinical stage and much more research is needed to understand the full potential of CBG.

It's also being researched for its ability to fight off antibiotic-resistant bacteria strains as well as a potential therapeutic intervention in conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

CBG is available in several forms, including oils, capsules, and topicals. As research on CBG continues to grow, it's possible that we'll learn even more about the potential benefits of this cannabinoid. While it's still not as well-known as CBD or THC, CBG is definitely one to watch in the world of medical cannabis research.

It's crucial to note that human trials for CBG efficacy is still in its early phase, and more research needs to be done before it can be used as a safe and effective therapy. Always consult a healthcare professional before introducing any new compounds, especially if you are on any existing medications.
